“Dando la Vara”: a project that brings together creativity, inclusion, and roots

At Almazaras de la Subbética we believe our commitment goes far beyond producing extra virgin olive oil. It also means supporting initiatives that help improve our environment and create opportunities for the people who are part of our community.

That’s why we continue joining forces with Albasur, an association we have been collaborating with since 2004 and that carries out essential work in Priego de Córdoba, promoting the social and labor inclusion of people with disabilities.

As a result of this joint work, “Dando la Vara” was born: a very special tote bag that reflects the spirit of collaboration, creativity, and commitment shared by both organizations.

A Bag Full of Meaning

The bag’s design is made up of very colorful olive leaves, an element that connects directly with our roots and with the olive-grove landscape that defines our land.

But what makes this project truly unique is that each leaf was designed by a different person, turning the bag into a collective work in which each participant has left their own creative mark. In this way, the final result represents the diversity, talent, and excitement of everyone who took part in the process.

The slogan “Dando la Vara” also adds a playful nod closely tied to the world of olive growing, evoking both work in the countryside and the energy and perseverance needed to move forward with projects that generate a positive impact.

A Commitment That Goes Beyond EVOO

For Almazaras de la Subbética, collaborating with Albasur is a way to reaffirm our commitment to society and to the land we belong to. More than two decades of working together, since 2004, support a relationship based on trust, inclusion, and mutual support.

Projects like “Dando la Vara” show that when creativity, inclusion, and commitment come together, the result is much more than a simple product: it’s a shared story that highlights people’s talent and strengthens the bonds with our community.

We will continue working together to promote new initiatives that, like this one, remind us that the true value of our sector is also found in the people who make it possible.

Almasubbética Charity Dual Run: sport and nature united for ALS, in Spain’s first mixed race

A day of sport and solidarity in Carcabuey that unites road and mountain to support research into ALS.

At Almazaras de la Subbética, we believe that sport has a transformative power. As well as uniting us, challenging us, and filling us with good energy, it can also become a tool for creating a positive impact on the lives of other people.

With that spirit, and through our Almazaras de la Subbética Foundation, we have created the Almasubbética Charity Dual Run, a unique event that combines a passion for running with a charitable goal: to support the fight against Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS).

The ALS is a neurodegenerative disease that affects motor neurons and gradually limits the ability to move, speak, and breathe. As of today, it has no cure, and that is why it is so important to continue promoting research and supporting the people who live with it. With this race, we want to do our bit to keep hope growing.

Road and mountain: all the key details

This coming Sunday, 28th September, Carcabuey will be the setting for the first mixed-terrain race in Spain that unites two very different environments: 3 kilometres on road and 5 kilometres on mountain trails. An experience designed for those who enjoy both speed on the road and a connection with nature.

The day will kick off with the hiking event at 9:00 a.m., ideal for those who prefer a more leisurely pace while enjoying the scenery.
At 10:15 a.m., the main race will begin.
The little ones can take part from 9:15 a.m. in the children’s races, designed so that the whole family can experience the atmosphere of this special day.

The meeting point will be at our home, at the facilities of our Almazaras de la Subbética, on Carretera A-339, kilometre 17, in Carcabuey (Córdoba). From there, the starting gun will be fired for an event that, beyond sport, aims to be a moment of unity, commitment, and solidarity.

This event is possible thanks to the involvement of many people and organisations. The Almazaras de la Subbética Foundation is organising the race with the support of the Carcabuey Town Council, which has gone above and beyond to provide everything necessary. We also have the collaboration of our friends at Membrillo El Quijote. And, of course, the backing of our sponsors Deoleo, Treico, and Alfa Laval, whose social commitment makes it possible for initiatives like this to go ahead.

‘Botellas con Alma’ es un compromiso solidario en el ‘Día Internacional del Cáncer Infantil’

Botellas con Alma: Un Compromiso Solidario en el Día Internacional del Cáncer Infantil. El 15 de febrero es una fecha muy importante y que en Almazaras de la Subbética tenemos bien marcado en rojo en nuestro calendario: el Día Internacional del Cáncer Infantil, un día para recordar a los niños que luchan contra esta dura enfermedad y para sensibilizar sobre la importancia de la investigación.

Aunque el cáncer afecta a personas de todas las edades, nos duele especialmente cuando impacta a los más pequeños. Cada año, más de 400.000 niños de todo el mundo son diagnosticados con cáncer, según la Organización Mundial de la Salud (OMS). Y aunque no podamos evitarlo, en Almazaras de la Subbética sí hemos querido aportar nuestro granito de arena apoyando en su investigación.

Beneficios del AOVE en la lucha contra el cáncer infantil

Muchos son los estudios que alaban nuestra Dieta Mediterránea y sus beneficios sobre nuestra salud, en especial los referidos al aceite de oliva virgen extra. Uno de los más recientes ofrece esperanzas sobre cómo el AOVE podría jugar un papel importante en la lucha contra el cáncer infantil, en particular el neuroblastoma, un cáncer agresivo que afecta principalmente a niños menores de 2 años. Investigadores de universidades de Castilla-La Mancha, Oporto, Lisboa y Palermo analizaron cómo los compuestos naturales del AOVE, como la oleuropeína y el hidroxitirosol, pueden tener propiedades terapéuticas. Estos compuestos, conocidos por sus potentes propiedades antioxidantes, ayudan a reducir el daño celular y a reforzar las defensas del cuerpo. Lo más sorprendente de este estudio es que se ha demostrado que estos compuestos pueden frenar el crecimiento de las células cancerígenas y, más aún, inducir la muerte de las mismas, mejorando la efectividad de los tratamientos convencionales.

Lo más prometedor de estos hallazgos es que tanto la oleuropeína como el hidroxitirosol también ayudan a reducir los efectos secundarios de tratamientos como la quimioterapia y la radioterapia. Un descubrimiento que abre una puerta a nuevas formas de complementar los tratamientos para el neuroblastoma, y que podría ser el inicio de nuevas investigaciones que ofrezcan soluciones más efectivas y menos invasivas para los pequeños pacientes.

Botellas con Alma: nuestro colorido espacio solidario

En Almazaras de la Subbética, nos sentimos profundamente comprometidos con causas que mejoren la vida de las personas. Por eso, además de producir aceite de oliva virgen extra de la más alta calidad, decidimos poner nuestro granito de arena en la lucha contra el cáncer infantil a través del proyecto ‘Botellas con Alma’, que tenemos en marcha, a través de la Fundación Almazaras de la Subbética, colaborando con la Asociación Sonrisas sin Cáncer.

Esta especial iniciativa da vida a nuestras botellas de aceite de oliva de una manera única. Junto a dicha asociación, nos pusimos en contacto con colegios de toda Andalucía y de Madrid para que los niños fueran los verdaderos artistas de nuestras botellas. Ellos se encargan de decorarlas con dibujos llenos de color que reflejan lo que para ellos significa la familia, el olivar, el campo y la naturaleza, convirtiéndose cada una de ellas en una obra de arte única y exclusiva, un símbolo de la creatividad y el alma de los pequeños.

Una botella, un compromiso: Apoyando la investigación contra el cáncer infantil

Lo mejor de todo es que estas botellas no solo son únicas en diseño, sino también en su propósito. Se les da una segunda vida al aprovechar aquellas que no cumplen con los estándares de tintado o serigrafía, contribuyendo de manera responsable con el medio ambiente.

Y, lo más importante, por cada botella que compras, nosotros donamos 4 euros a la Asociación Sonrisas sin Cáncer, que se dedica a apoyar la investigación de tratamientos para el cáncer infantil y a mejorar la calidad de vida de los niños que luchan contra la enfermedad.

El cáncer infantil es una realidad que no podemos ignorar, pero, con la ayuda de todos, podemos apoyar la investigación y ofrecerles más esperanza a estos pequeños guerreros.
